Smoke Behaviors

Smoke may behave differently than the fire itself. Hot smoke will migrate to cooler and upper areas of the structure. Flowing around plumbing systems, the smoke will use the holse for pipes to move from floor to floor, room to room. The type of smoke and the soot it leaves behind will also effect the restoration process.

Dry Smoke Residue- This is from fast burning fires which burn at high temperatures. The residues are dry, powdery with small non-smeary particles.
Protien Smoke Residue- These are virtually invisible and will discolor paints and varnishes. The residues will have an extreme bitter odor.
Fuel Oil Smoke Residue- Furnace puss backs distrubute fuel oil smoke residues.
